In the world of television, front doors are rarely locked, friends and neighbors come and go at will and everyone seems to trust in the goodwill of the people around them. But there are several characters that could benefit from upping their security. Whether its remote monitoring, live streaming or an alarm system, here are the reasons we think 15 of our favorite characters should invest in some type of security system.
1. Jerry Seinfeld, “Seinfeld”
There are so many reasons Jerry would have benefitted from a security system. Not only could he set Kramer-specific alerts for food and housewares pillaging, but there would be no more questions about which item his vengeful girlfriend dipped in the toilet after Jerry let her use a toothbrush he accidentally knocked into her toilet.
2. Monica and Rachel, “Friends”
When your front door is a portal to nonstop friend traffic, some remote monitoring could afford an extra level or peace for these New York friends. And hopefully it would put an end to those awkward bathtub and shower situations that keep popping up.
3. Ned Flanders, “The Simpsons”
Even though he already knows Homer is the one who “borrows” all of his tools and household goods, it would be nice to catch the imposing Homer Simpson on tape. Even if it doesn’t deter Homer right away, chances are Ned would get some embarrassing video gems of his bumbling neighbor that would undoubtedly have some value on Springfield’s version of America’s Funniest Home Videos.
4. Deb Morgan, “Dexter”
For a crack detective, Deb sure gets herself in some sticky (and stabby) situations. Maybe if she upped her security so she had remote video monitoring, she could avoid some of the nasty predicaments this sister of our favorite serial killer gets herself into.
5. Barney Stinson, “How I Met Your Mother”
It would be nothing but clean getaways for the womanizing Barney if he had a monitoring system that could let him know when his latest conquest tries to come back for seconds or better yet, he could slip out and remotely view her wake of shame when she turns over to find his side of the bed as cold as his heart.
6. All of House’s Patients, “House”
Forget patient confidentiality, with Dr. Gregory House there are no secrets – not even shoved into the back of your sock drawer. House is notorious for sending his minions to break into his patients’ homes. If any of them had a monitored security system they could have been saved this violation, although they may not have lived to enjoy it.
7. Claire Dunphy, “Modern Family”
As the ultimate modern control freak mom, Claire needs a system that will let her take her supermom status to the next level. She needs to keep an eye on her three kids and her adorably goofy hubby, Phil. Imagine the extra “I was right” evidence that Claire could gain from replaying the footage she captures on the monitoring cameras and how much time she could save by controlling the system remotely from her phone when she’s out and about.
8. Michael Scott, “The Office”
At the end of the day, Michael just wanted to be loved and keep the lonely at bay. Knowing his tendency to overdo things, he could remotely monitor all of his employees at all hours in all situations. Never again would Michael go to sleep lonely or wake up by himself – not with everyone on close-circuit TV or streaming on his iPad.
9. Michael Bluth, “Arrested Development”
This straight arrow in a family of deviants would save himself hours of heartache if he could keep an eye on the activities of his scheming relatives with remote monitoring and text alerts. Who knows – maybe he could stop GOB’s next harebrained scheme or catch Lindsay before she shops away the last of the company’s bank account.
10. Olivia Benson, “Law and Order: SVU”
As one of NYPD’s top detectives, Olivia certainly finds herself in a lot of tight scrapes. Her investigative instincts seem a little faulty sometimes. I think this special victims unit detective could benefit from an alarm and some remote monitoring. It would showcase how smart Olivia is to take advantage of the latest security technology available.
11. Sheldon Cooper, “The Big Bang Theory”
When his apartment was broken into, Sheldon panicked and went so far as to move to Montana in hopes of finding a safer, gentler world to live in. This genius could have saved himself the hassle with a 24-hour monitored security system. And with his gift for technology he would no doubt be able to amplify the effectiveness of whatever system he got to make sure it made life a little less comfortable for roomie Leonard and plucky neighbor, Penny.
12. Stewie Griffin, “Family Guy”
What baby with a penchant for matricide and world domination wouldn’t be thrilled to find a security system under the Christmas tree? Stewie could move his villainous plans forward and take care of Lois in half an episode with remote control features he can access from a cell phone.
13. Liz Lemon, “30 Rock”
The smartest use of modern security technology for Liz would be to keep an eye on Tracy and what’s happening in the writer’s room. She could probably reduce the amount of ridiculousness she has to deal with on a daily basis by at least 50% with the right system.
14. Sam and Dean Winchester, “Supernatural”
Even though these demon-fighting brothers are constantly on the move, they could save themselves a lot of guesswork (and minimize their reliance on the likes of Angels) with remote monitoring of various people, demons and locations that are repeat offenders when it comes to hot spots for evil activity. And some security companies make their systems portable, so this duo could take their security with them wherever they go.
15. Richard Castle, “Castle”
It’s tough out there for a full-time single dad, bestselling author and NYPD mascot. Castle could make sure nothing falls through the cracks – and make sure the boys keep their paws off his precious Alexis with remote monitoring through his smartphone or tablet. He could even put sensors on the liquor cabinet to make sure no one got into his favorite beverages without his knowing.
We can see how each of these characters could use a security system to make their lives a little easier and safer. Security providers offer many features, so there’s sure to be a system that has everything you need, from basic monitoring to energy management and full home automation.
