After over a year of waiting, Canary is finally being released. The home security system, which was crowd funded through Indiegogo, began shipping to the approximately 15,000 customers who pre-ordered the system.
What is Canary?
Canary is a complete, all-in-one home security system designed to give you all the benefits of a normal alarm system in one simple, compact package. The system has been in the process of acquiring funding and completing manufacturing since July 2013. Since then, it’s accumulated around $2 million in sales from eager crowd funders and investors.
Canary comes equipped with a 1080p HD camera with a 147 degree wide-angle lens, night vision and audio to help record what happens in your home or office. It’s also capable of reading air temperature, humidity and air quality using HomeHealth Technology to ensure that your home is a healthy environment.
In case of an emergency the system is equipped with a high-quality microphone and 90+ dB siren to notify you and emergency personnel of a break-in or suspicious activity in your home.
For instance, Canary will eventually know what time you leave and return for work so if someone enters in the time between, it may send up a red flag and alert you if not deactivated.
It’s also easy to install, with the company claiming it only takes minutes. You simply download the free app on your mobile device and plug Canary into the Internet and let it get to work. The device also includes free Cloud storage straight out of the box, so you can keep your recordings for as long as you like.
Anticipation for Canary has been overwhelming and funding came fairly quickly. The company developing the security system, Canary Connect, Inc., was able to secure $10 million from outside investors in addition to the $2 million acquired through Indiegogo.
Canary Stands Out Among the Rest
Canary can be placed anywhere in your home, though a central location is best, and takes up little space. It stands at only 6 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter, while weighing less than a pound. Feel free to get as sneaky with your placement as you like. The company recommends having at least one Canary per floor for maximum protection.
To use Canary you’ll need either Broadband Internet connectivity, Wi-Fi or Ethernet and the iPhone 4s or Android 4.0 or newer.
Canary Connect, Inc. claims the difference between Canary and other home alarm systems is their focus on the inside of your home. They say other systems typically place sensors and cameras near the perimeter of a home to check for potential break-ins. Canary, on the other hand, lets you know what’s going on inside all of your house at any given moment.
The product’s website states claims Canary “gives you the complete picture.”
