Family Watchdog Helps You Locate Sex Offenders in Your Community

Written by | Updated October 2, 2013

The National Center for Victims of Crime reports that 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 20 boys is a victim of child sexual abuse. There’s a way to help prevent your children from being that statistic.

Family Watchdog is a free service that helps you locate registered sex offenders in your community. This site also provides free notifications so you can keep up when offenders move in or out of your area.

The website is easy to use; simply enter your address and an interactive map appears with color coded markings of where each sex offender lives. You can click on each mark and see more information about the offender, like what they were charged for, when, and any other aliases they might have. Family Watchdog also provides other safety information, like FDA alerts, product and medicine recalls, and food allergy information.

When you search to see what’s in your area, you might be surprised at the results. I was shocked to find 877 registered sex offenders in my city, and my area still measures up below the national average. Seeing this number really made me happy I have a monitored security system to help protect my home from any potential intruders.

Family Watchdog is a great awareness tool for you and your family. It is not meant to scare you; it is simply meant to educate you on what is going on in your neighborhood so you can keep your family safe.
