Vivint Buys Naming Rights to SLC Arena

Energy Solutions Arena, home to the Utah Jazz and the region’s premier entertainment arena, has been renamed and will now be known as the Vivint Smart Home Arena. The name change is effective immediately and will signal a new decade of sponsorship for the Larry H. Miller Sports and Entertainment (LHMSE) arena.

Vivint and LHMSE officials have announced a 10-year deal—the agreement includes naming rights for the downtown Salt Lake City arena as well as undisclosed financial terms. The new agreement will mark the third name change for the arena in its 25 years of operation.

This partnership between two prominent Utah businesses is a big step towards better branding in their home state for Vivint, headquartered in Provo.

Vivint was founded in 1999 by Todd Pederson (then known as APX Solutions) and has experienced rapid growth in the last several years. Vivint focuses on providing home security, energy management, and home automation features through a cloud-based platform, and they currently serve over one million customers throughout the U.S. and Canada.

According to Vivint’s press release, the newly named 19,911-seat facility hosts about 1.8 million guests and more than 100 sports and entertainment events each year. The “multi-faceted strategic marketing partnership” will include an “interactive Vivint Smart Home Experience” as well as “upgraded security and automation technology” throughout the facilities. The new name will be visible throughout the arena and surrounding grounds as soon as possible, the changes likely occurring through the end of 2015.

LHMSE President Steve Starks commented on the partnership in today’s release, stating, “Vivint is a long-time supporter of the Jazz, is a Utah-based company, and has a deep commitment to the community and our fans. These were all qualities we looked for when we began this process.”

An official press conference announcing the change has been scheduled for Monday afternoon, October 26th.
