Is Wish safe?

Wish has been around for a while now, and some people swear by the platform when it comes to getting a great deal online. That doesn't necessarily mean, however, that the company is legitimate, safe, and good value.

Today we'll be exploring whether Wish is a suitable platform for your next online bargain hunt, so let's jump in.

What is Wish?

Wish is a discount online retailer. While it doesn't have the best reputation, the range of items available is broad and pricing is low. Quality can be questionable, but that's pretty standard for this type of platform.

In terms of how the platform operates, Wish is more closely related to eBay and AliExpress than it is to Shein or Temu. This is because Wish is essentially an online marketplace presenting as an umbrella retailer.

Is Wish a scam?

Photos regularly surface of products arriving from the platform that are entirely different to what the purchaser thought they were ordering. In fact, you've probably seen at least one of the Wish-focused expectation vs reality memes floating around the internet. Quality issues and orders arriving with the wrong items are also common.

Because of this, it makes perfect sense that you'd be wondering, is Wish legit? You may be surprised to know, however, that the platform is a genuine one.

Issues aside, Wish is a legitimate online shopping platform that you can order from and expect at least something to turn up, and in many cases the something that arrives is what you ordered.

Is Wish trustworthy?

The reason that Wish is often seen as untrustworthy is because of all the negative attention that the platform receives online. It is important to remember, however, that people are far more likely to share their opinion when they're mad, rather than when they're happy.

As long as you do your research before completing a purchase, you can get a decent deal on the platform. Having said that, however, buyer protection is far superior on other sites.

Is it a good idea to shop with Wish?

Wish is essentially just a facilitator site like Amazon, eBay, or AliExpress and all three of these options offer better buyer protection, faster shipping, better ethical practices and a larger base of happy customers.

If you want to stay within the super cheap sphere, Shein is also another popular option for those looking to score a bargain. That said, shopping via Wish and Shein can come with more risks than the three platforms above.

Safe shopping tips for Wish

Having said all of that, however, if you want to shop with Wish, it is possible to do so safely. It's important to follow all the standard bargain shopping tips such as:

Check reviews before purchasing

Reviews should always be what you pay the most attention to when shopping on this kind of platform. After all, bargain basement prices usually mean that the quality is going to align with the price tag, but that doesn't mean you can't score a good deal.

By checking the reviews before committing to a purchase you'll be able to see whether other people found the item to be worth the money, and save yours if the jury condemns the purchase.

Double-check measurements of garments

Wish, like most low cost online shopping platforms, tends to sell products that are designed and manufactured in China. This means that sizing is vastly different to what you're used to finding on the rack instore.

In order to avoid ending up with clothing that is way too small, it is advisable to shop based on measurements, rather than the size on the tag.

Size up if you can't find a perfect match to your measurements

It is also important to note that if you cannot find a set of measurements that align with your needs, sizing up is your best option. This way you're far more likely to receive something that fits.

Favour products that have photo reviews

Products with photo reviews will always be more trustworthy than those that simply have star ratings or a short bit of text. This is because people are far less likely to take a photo wearing a low quality item, and has the added bonus of letting you see what a garment looks like in real life.

Check out seller details

Seller details and ratings are as important as individual product details and ratings on Wish so be sure to check both before committing to purchasing an item.

Final word

Wish can provide some great deals, but you generally have to look for them. While the platform itself isn't a scam, and is usually safe in terms of making purchases, the items you receive may not be quite what you imagined, and there are better options available.
