Visit any electronics store or check out our guides, and you’ll quickly notice that most consumer-grade, battery-powered security cameras aren’t designed to record continuously 24/7. To conserve battery life, they typically only activate recording when motion is detected—a feature that works well for most users. But what if you’re planning to be away for the weekend and want the extra assurance of constant surveillance?

Last year, Reolink launched the Altas PT Ultra, an absolute unit of a battery-powered security camera and the first to offer 24/7 continuous recording for up to four days. Today, the company upgraded it and added two new cameras to create the Altas series.

The lineup includes three battery-powered security cameras:

  • Altas: A bullet-style camera with 2K video resolution and Wi-Fi connectivity
  • Altas Go PT: A 4G pan-tilt camera for remote areas with 360-degree coverage (requires a compatible 4G SIM, sold separately)
  • Altas PT Ultra: A Wi-Fi pan-tilt camera with crisp 4K detail and continuous recording capabilities upgraded from the original version's four to seven days.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the differences between each model.

All cameras in the series boast a battery capacity of 20,000mAh, powering up to seven straight days of continuous 24-hour recording. Each camera also comes with a solar panel as standard, enabling the camera to record 24/7 footage around the clock without the need for constant recharging with as little as two hours of sunlight per day.

For those who don’t need round-the-clock surveillance, the Altas series also sports a new feature designed to help motion-triggered recordings capture even more footage: pre-record. The lineup’s new generation chip enables the camera to capture up to 10 seconds of footage before movement is detected, so you won’t miss a second.

The new Altas lineup also features Reolink’s ColorX technology, which the company claims delivers four times more light than traditional infrared cameras, making even night footage as clear and colorful as daylight. And, as with all Reolink cameras, no monthly fees are necessary to unlock advanced features, and all Altas cameras support up to 512GB of local storage via microSD card.

Currently, there’s no word on when the two new additions to the Altas series will become available, but if you can't wait, the original Altas PT Ultra is on sale for $138.59.
