Ring has announced the launch of its latest security camera, the Outdoor Cam Plus, boasting the company’s best image quality to date. The new device features 2K video resolution, a wide field of view, and advanced Low-Light Sight technology to enhance visibility even in near-dark conditions. As a long-time Outdoor Cam user, this upgrade has me more than a little excited.

Enhanced video performance and low-light visibility
While the Outdoor Cam Plus includes all the usual features of the original Outdoor Cam, like motion detection, real-time alerts, Live View, and Two-Way Talk, Outdoor Cam Plus is powered by Ring Vision. This is a system that the company says integrates high-quality lenses, premium imaging sensors, and dynamic image processing to deliver crisp video quality. Its Low-Light Sight technology utilizes advanced processing techniques to produce clear, color-rich footage even in dimly lit environments. That's a step up from the washed-out, sometimes grainy footage I get from my Outdoor Cam.

Subscription-based features and Alexa integration
Ring Home subscriptions add additional benefits to your camera set up. With Ring Home Basic, customers can receive people, package, and vehicle alerts, as well as access up to 180 days of recorded event history. The Ring Home Premium plan introduces 24/7 recording for plug-in models. Plus, the AI-powered Smart Video Search lets users quickly find specific moments in their video history. I hate searching, so this is a big plus.
The new camera also integrates with Alexa-enabled devices, enabling users to stream live footage, communicate through Two-Way Talk, and access additional smart home functionalities.
Prioritizing privacy and security
I think Ring has been listening to us consumers about privacy concerns. In addition to mandatory two-step verification and end-to-end encryption for video footage, the Outdoor Cam Plus includes customizable privacy settings, allowing users to designate privacy zones and block areas from recording. A blue indicator light also visibly signals when the camera is actively recording.
When will we get the new Ring camera?
The Outdoor Cam Plus is now available for pre-order on Ring.com and Amazon.com for $99.99. The official release date is set for March 26, 2025.
