Vivint has completely changed how it protects its customers. They’ve replaced their old lineup with HomeProtect and HomeProtect Pro. This change comes with an updated Vivint app experience. With the latest offerings, Vivint says it aims to give you a more straightforward path into professionally installed, professionally monitored smart home security without forcing you into big upfront costs or confusing tech setups.

HomeProtect is Vivint’s new entry-level system. It starts at $199.99 with professional installation, putting it in the same price neighborhood as many DIY systems, but with technicians doing the heavy lifting instead of the homeowner.

HomeProtect Pro, which replaces the name of Vivint’s existing integrated smart home system, starts at $599.99 and is aimed at people who want a more customizable mix of cameras, sensors, energy tools and automation built around Vivint’s platform.

Both systems come with 24/7 professional monitoring from Vivint’s in-house teams, plus access to the refreshed Vivint app that lets you manage security and energy features from virtually anywhere.

Why did Vivint change?

Vivint is positioning the new lineup as a way to remove the two biggest pain points for people considering smart home security: complicated DIY installs and confusing pricing.

“Vivint offers everyone a simple pathway to safer, smarter and more efficient homes, giving them the confidence and peace of mind to focus on what matters most,” said Dave Porter, Managing Director of Vivint. He added that, with HomeProtect and HomeProtect Pro, Vivint aims to give homeowners “affordable, professionally installed and monitored security and smart home systems” at every stage of their smart home journey.

Instead of forcing people to choose between fully DIY systems or high-end custom installs, Vivint is trying to sit in the middle: pro installation, pro monitoring, and a single app, paired with transparent starting prices and the option to upgrade over time.

HomeProtect: Pro installation at DIY prices

HomeProtect is Vivint’s new foundation-level system built for people who want reliable home security and a bit of energy management, but do not want to spend a weekend crawling around in the attic wrestling with wires and Wi-Fi.

Vivint is explicit about who this is for: anyone who cares about safety and efficiency, but does not want to “figure it out” alone. That is not just marketing spin. Research from analyst firm Parks Associates shows that nearly one-third of consumers eventually call in professionals after struggling with DIY installs, and 44% of smart homeowners have used professional installation at least once.

“It’s clear to us that millions of Americans want a safer, more efficient home without having to figure out how to ‘do it themselves’ when it comes to protecting the most important things in their lives,” said William Stovall, Vivint’s Senior Vice President of Marketing. He described HomeProtect as a way to give people “professionally installed and monitored systems at a price usually reserved for low-end DIY and unmonitored options.”

What HomeProtect includes

HomeProtect is intentionally stripped down to the essentials, but it’s not bare bones. Every HomeProtect system comes with:

  • 1 Vivint Security Hub, which is panel-free

  • 1 long-range keypad

  • 3 long-range door and window sensors

  • 1 long-range motion sensor

  • 1 Vivint yard sign

  • 24/7 professional monitoring

  • Professional installation by Vivint technicians

  • Full control through the Vivint app, at home or away

Pricing and add-ons for HomeProtect

Vivint is offering two main pricing paths for HomeProtect customers.

You can choose either:

  • $199.99 for equipment with free installation, paired with a 36-month monitoring agreement at $24.99 per month, or

  • $349.99 for equipment without a contract, plus a $199 installation fee and $29.99 per month for monitoring

Both options include professional installation and the same core monitoring service, so the decision mostly comes down to whether you prefer a lower upfront cost or more flexibility.

HomeProtect is also not locked into a static setup. You can choose to add one of these devices:

  • A Vivint Smart Thermostat

  • A Vivint Doorbell Camera Pro with a Chime Extender

  • A smart lock

These add-ons come at an additional cost, but they bring energy management and smart access into the mix for people who want more control over comfort and entry points. Suppose you decide they want a more advanced setup later. In that case, you can upgrade to HomeProtect Pro and have your initial HomeProtect purchase credited toward the cost of the new system, which makes starting small less risky.

HomeProtect Pro: Vivint’s flagship smart home gets a new name

Vivint's HomeProtect Pro lineup includes smart devices.

HomeProtect is the “start here” system and HomeProtect Pro is the “build your ideal smart home” option. HomeProtect Pro is essentially the new label for Vivint’s existing fully integrated smart home and energy management system. The technology behind it is not new to the company, but the naming brings the lineup under a clearer umbrella and helps separate essential security from high-end customization.

HomeProtect Pro focuses on deeper integration, automation and device support, creating a single system that can tie together cameras, thermostats, lighting, locks and other smart devices around a central hub.

What HomeProtect Pro includes

Every HomeProtect Pro system starts with a more robust core kit than HomeProtect. The standard package includes:

  • 1 Vivint Smart Hub with a digital touchscreen

  • 4 door and window sensors

  • 1 motion sensor

  • 1 Vivint yard sign

  • 24/7 professional monitoring

  • Professional installation

  • Full control through the Vivint app

From there, you can add from Vivint’s broader lineup of cameras, sensors, thermostats, smart lighting devices and other home automation tools. The idea is to let you build a system that fits your property and lifestyle instead of forcing you into a single bundle.

HomeProtect Pro pricing, personalization, and consultations

HomeProtect Pro starts at $599.99 and includes free professional installation. Pro have month-to-month monitoring if you buy your equipment outright. If you finance your equipment, you'll need to sign a contract.

Vivint has built three recommended packages around its most popular components to give you a starting point, but the system is designed to be mixed and matched. If you want a more tailored experience, you can book a private design consultation or take a guided quiz on Vivint’s website to explore system recommendations.

Vivint app upgrades

Alongside the new product names, Vivint has also updated its mobile app. The app is meant to be the command center for both HomeProtect and HomeProtect Pro customers, putting security controls, energy tools and alerts into one place.

You can arm and disarm your system, check notifications, review camera feeds on compatible systems, manage smart devices and adjust settings from virtually anywhere. The goal is to make the pro-installed aspect feel modern and flexible, not locked into a single wall panel in the hallway.

What the change means for homeowners

For people who have been stuck between cobbling together a DIY system and paying for a complex custom install, Vivint’s HomeProtect lineup offers a middle lane.
HomeProtect caters to the homeowner who just wants solid, professionally monitored security and simple energy savings at a price that doesn't feel out of reach. HomeProtect Pro is aimed at those ready to commit to a more advanced smart home and energy management setup, with room to expand and fine-tune.

Vivint is betting that professionally installed and monitored systems priced closer to DIY will convince more people to finally secure their homes, cut some energy waste and stop pretending the cardboard box of smart gadgets in the closet is “a weekend project” waiting to happen.
