Car rides are one of the most common — and potentially dangerous — situations for young children. These awards honor the products that help keep babies and toddlers protected on the road, from properly designed car seats to devices that prevent common but serious risks like hot car incidents and driver blind spots.

Best furniture anchor system
Booda furniture wall anchors secure heavy items like TVs, bookshelves, dressers, and other furniture that's at risk of tipping over onto your baby. These also have earthquake-resistant straps for extra protection.
Safety 1st
Best stove knob covers
Safety 1st wins again for its easy-to-use and affordable stove knob covers. These covers are universal, so they'll work for any stove, and best of all, they don't make it hard for you to make dinner. They open and close easily.
Toddleroo

These Toddleroo window locks fit most windows and sliding glass doors. They're priced right, easy to install, and they don't totally ruin the vibe with their appearance or with damage from screws and nails.
The Winners: Smart home safety for families
Creating a safe home for your growing family isn't just about baby gates and outlet covers — it's also about the home environment. These awards recognize smart home devices that make it easy to monitor environmental safety in your home, like air quality, carbon monoxide levels, and temperature.
Ecobee
Best smart thermostat for families
The Ecobee Smart Thermostat Enhanced can do more than just regulate the nursery's temperature. It can learn your habits, so every room is at peak comfort, and accessory support can help coordinate other devices, like a humidifier.
First Alert

Best smart nursery air quality monitor
You may not have worried about air quality before, but with a baby in the house, it matters more. The Airthings 2960 View Plus monitors eight pollutants, including radon, and sends alerts through the app. It also has voice control.
How we chose the SafeWise Baby Safety Award winners

We tested the Owlet Dream Sock on one of our SafeWise babies. Image: SafeWise.
At SafeWise, we’ve spent more than a decade researching and reviewing products designed to protect families — from smart home security systems to car safety devices and babyproofing tools.
The SafeWise Baby Safety Awards recognize the products that help prevent injuries, detect potential dangers, and make everyday environments safer for babies and toddlers.
For this inaugural awards program, we evaluated products across three key safety environments:
- Car and travel safety
- Monitoring, location tracking, and smart baby safety
- Home babyproofing and hazard prevention
These categories reflect the most common situations where young children face safety risks — from car rides to everyday household hazards.
Our research process
Because SafeWise has been covering baby safety products for many years, the winners in this first edition of the awards were selected from products that have consistently ranked highly in our buyers’ guides and product reviews.
Our team reviewed products featured across SafeWise research, covering:
- Car seats and booster seats
- Baby monitors
- Baby gates
- Cabinet locks and babyproofing devices
- Car safety reminder devices
We analyzed product specifications, safety certifications, user feedback, and long-term performance trends to identify the standouts.
We also evaluated emerging safety technologies designed for toddlers and young children, including GPS tracking devices and wearable safety devices that allow caregivers to monitor their children's locations and communicate with them as they grow.
Future editions of the awards will incorporate additional hands-on testing and updated product evaluations.
Safety standards and testing
For safety-critical products, we prioritized devices that meet established safety standards or certifications.
For example, car seat recommendations consider federal safety regulations and crash-test requirements set by organizations like the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Products that lacked credible safety testing, certifications, or transparent product information were not considered.
Real-world usability
Safety products only work when caregivers can use them correctly.
We considered:
- Ease of installation
- Clear instructions and labeling
- Reliability during daily use
- Durability in real-life environments
For monitoring devices like baby monitors, we also looked at factors like video quality, audio clarity, connection type, battery life, and privacy features.
Hazard prevention and home safety
For babyproofing products, we focused on tools that help reduce common household risks.
Our research considers how safety devices address hazards throughout the home — including kitchens, bathrooms, stairways, and living areas — where young children frequently encounter potential dangers.
We evaluated products based on their ability to:
- Prevent access to dangerous areas
- Secure furniture and appliances
- Reduce choking, burn, or fall hazards
What we prioritized
Across all categories, we looked for products that:
- Prevent injuries before they happen
- Help caregivers detect problems quickly
- Meet recognized safety standards
- Are easy to install and use correctly
- Provide reliable protection in real-life scenarios
What we avoided
We did not select products that:
- Provide limited real safety value
- Lack credible safety testing or certification
- Are overly complicated to install or maintain
- Create a false sense of security
Why baby safety matters
From car rides to kitchen cabinets, babies and toddlers face hazards in nearly every environment they explore.
Thoughtful safety tools — whether a properly installed car seat, a reliable baby monitor, or a simple cabinet lock — can significantly reduce the risk of injury and help caregivers respond quickly when something goes wrong.
The SafeWise Baby Safety Awards highlight the products that help families create safer homes and safer journeys for their youngest members.
What’s next for the SafeWise Baby Safety Awards
As safety technology evolves and new devices enter the market, SafeWise will continue expanding these awards with new categories, updated safety data, and additional product testing.
Our goal is simple: help families choose the tools that truly make their homes and vehicles safer for children.
