Okay, I’ll admit, I missed not being able to open my door with my fingertip. While the Kwikset Halo Select doesn’t have a biometric feature to unlock it with your fingertip (like with the Halo Touch or the Lockly Vision Elite), it does rack up a lot of impressive goodies.
One of the standout features of the Halo Select is its reliable auto-unlock functionality. Using geofencing, the lock can automatically unlock as you approach your home, offering a truly hands-free experience. No fingerprint, keys, or code needed!
This was my husband’s favorite feature. As soon as he got close to the lock while holding his phone, the lock unlocked for him. In fact, as soon as he pulled in the carport I would hear it unlock. Our carport is about 10 to 15 feet from our door, so that’s impressive.
Even better, the geofencing works quietly in the background through the app, so you don’t need to open your phone or press any buttons — it just knows when you're near and unlocks your door for you.
The geofencing will automatically lock the door, too, when it senses you leaving the area. You can set up the distance in the app.
You can also set the Halo Select to lock after a certain amount of time automatically. We have it set to autolock after five minutes. The thought process is that the five minutes will give us enough time to pop back in if we forget something, but it will lock up while, or soon after, we pull out of the driveway.
The Kwikset Halo Select offers built-in Wi‑Fi, allowing direct control through the Kwikset app and integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. This makes it easy to lock, unlock, and monitor your door using voice commands or a smartphone, without needing a separate hub.
One unusual compatibility feature is that the lock supports Matter-over-Thread. This gives you additional smart-home compatibility with platforms like Apple Home, Samsung SmartThings, and other Matter-ready platforms.
It’s important to mention, though, some of the locks features don’t work with Matter. For example, the door status notifications don’t work.
Here’s a comparison of the features you can use with each:
Kwikset Halo Select supports up to 250 user access codes, making it easy to share access with family, guests, or service providers. Will you really ever need that many? Probably not, but it’s good to know you have the option.
You can create permanent, temporary, or scheduled codes and track activity through access logs. This level of customization gives you precise control over who can enter your home and when — all from the Kwikset app.
If someone tries to use a bad code repeatedly or tries to tamper with your lock, the app will send you a notification. The Halo Select also has a vacation mode that disables the touchscreen altogether. This will keep people out of your home, no matter if they have a code or not. You can leave your keys with your trusted friend who will be watering the plants.
