Reolink Wireless Security Systems have two things that make them stand out against the competition. First, they include some of the best security cameras on the market. Second, the hub and the cameras have local storage through microSD cards.

I tried out a Reolink security system in my home to see how well it stacks up to competitors I've tested, like SimpliSafe and Vivint. Here's what you need to know about this stand-out system.

Looking for Reolink PoE?

In this review, I'm talking about Reolink's wireless hub security systems, but Reolink also has PoE systems if that's what you need. The Reolink 12MP UHD PoE Security System comes with an Ethernet connection and 8-channel NVR.

How much does a Reolink Wireless Security System cost?

Reolink priced its Home Hub at $99.99, which is comparable to other top brands. The Reolink Home Hub Pro (it supports more cameras and has more built-in memory) costs $239.99.

The cameras are a little pricier than some you may come across with other brands, but there's one thing to remember: Reolink cameras blow other security system cameras out of the water. More on that later.

Here are prices for some of Reolink's more popular cameras:

The Argus 4 Pro and PT Ultra are top picks for the highest video quality and coverage. If you're on a budget or need indoor flexibility, the E1 Zoom and Argus 3 Pro provide excellent value. For off-grid or mobile monitoring, the Go Plus is the go-to LTE camera.

Save some money on Reolink security

To save some money, you can buy the hub packaged together with two to four Reolink cameras. For example, the Home Hub with Argus 4 Pro package that we got cost around $350. If you bought the hub and the two cameras seperatly on the Reolink site, it would run you around $500.

Compare Reolink storage plans

Most security systems have monthly monitoring plans. Since Reolink is all about self-monitoring, it only offers cloud storage plans. And they offer a variety of affordable options if you don't want to just rely on local storage. (Which may be a solid idea if you don't want to buy extra SD cards to bulk up the memory.)

Now, you may be wondering why you would pick the Standard LTE Plan Pro over the Premier LTE Plan since it costs so much more and offers less camera support. Well, only certain plans work for certain cameras. If you have the TrackMix LTE Plus or Reolink TrackMix LTE Plus 2 you can only get the 30D, 60D, and Standard Plan and Plan Pro plans. Other than that, we're at a loss as to why there's a price difference.

Checklist
What the Reolink Wireless Security System isn't

When comparing Reolink to other security systems, there are some important things to remember. Reolink Wireless Security System isn't:

  • Professionally installed. You'll need to install everything yourself. It's 100% a DIY system.
  • Professionally monitored. Notifications get pushed to your phone, and the alarms will sound, but there won't be anyone to call for emergency services.
  • Full of typical security devices. Reolink doesn't offer sensors for smoke, CO, water leaks, temperature changes, glass breaks, or motion detection. It does have a video doorbell and a wide selection of security cameras.

Reolink security systems feature outstanding cameras

Okay, I've already mentioned a bunch of times that Reolink security cameras are the chef's kiss. I've got a bunch of reasons for that.

For the most part, security system cameras are as basic as you could imagine. The visual quality is okay; they have two-way talk. And that's where the features end.

Reolink, on the other hand, goes the distance. For example, the Reolink Argus PT 4K+ won our best overall wireless home security camera top spot. It offers local storage, two-way talk, 4K resolution, and motion zones to customize what your camera can see. so, if your camera is picking up traffic from the street and bugging you with too many notifications you can adjust the motion zone so the camera doesn't detect the street. Others, like SimpliSafe, don't have motion zones.

I tried the Argus 4 Pro with our system and was impressed. Thanks to its 4K Ultra High Definition video capabilities, the footage was crystal clear, and the 180° field of view let me see a large portion of my yard. The two-way talk was also nice and clear, with very little static.

It has a special feature that stitches images together into a panoramic view. It can also take time-lapse videos.

Reolink Wireless Security Systems have local storage

Inserting the memory SD card into the Reolink hub.

Image: Alina Bradford, SafeWise

Another thing I've mentioned is that the Reolink hub and cameras have local storage. That means that all of your footage is stored on an SD card inside the device. This keeps your footage more secure. Very few wireless security systems offer this option. Usually you have to go with a more expensive, wired security system.

If you buy the Reolink Home Hub, it comes with a 64GB microSD card built in, and you can add two 512 GB microSD cards. The Home Hub supports up to eight Reolink cameras.

If you buy the Reolink Home Hub Pro, it comes with 2TB of memory built in. No SD card needed. The Pro supports up to 16 Reolink cameras.

Thoughts from Reolink customers

"Helped me out with questions, great customer service!" —Patrick Noel via Trustpilot, April 01, 2025

"This brand of surveillance cameras has made my work life easier. They're fantastic, functional, easy to install, and have crystal-clear video resolution. In short, they're excellent." —Patricia Argandoña via Trustpilot, March 20, 2025

"The knowledge and professionalism that I received from Frank [customer service rep] was outstanding. I was replacing our antiquated PoE camera system with a system from Reolink, the technology of these systems has progressed a great deal, but my knowledge had regressed back to the stone age. There was a plethora of emails between Frank and I, he was educating me on the operation and features of the cameras and the NVR system which I ended up exchanging for a Home Hub Pro." —John Rothen via Trustpilot, March 18, 2025

Reolink Wireless Security System installation

Reolink is probably the easiest security system out there to set up since it's just a hub and a camera. Here's how to install a Reolink security system:

  1. Plug in and power up the hub: Connect your Reolink Home Hub to a power outlet using the adapter. Then, use the Ethernet cable that came in the box to connect the hub to your home router.
  2. Set up with the app: Download the Reolink app on your phone. If you’re new to Reolink, you’ll need to create an account. Once you're in, just follow the instructions on the app to get your Home Hub all set up.
  3. Add your cameras: Now for the fun part—connecting your cameras! In the Reolink app, tap the "+" button and follow the on-screen prompts to add each camera to your Home Hub.
  4. Test it out: With your cameras connected, you can view live footage anytime, anywhere, straight from the Reolink app. On the home screen, you'll see a preview from all your cameras.
Thumbs Down
Confusing app

Since I love Reolink, I would like to have nice things to say about the Reolink app, but I don't. It's needlessly confusing and not intuitive at all. I had trouble finding the features that I wanted.

Reolink wireless security system FAQ

Yes, Reolink offers cellular backup, but you'll need a SIM card from your cellular provider. It's important to note that the devices are only compatible with a few companies. Reolink is compatible with:

  • EIOT Club
  • T-Mobile (prepaid data card only)
  • Freedompop
  • AT&T (prepaid data card only)

Only if you opt for cloud storage, which costs between $5.99 and $24.99 per month. Since the system has local storage, you don't need to get cloud storage.

While the hub won't work without internet, the cameras will. The alarm will still sound and it will still record footage to the SD card. You also have the option of connecting a cellular SIM card to your system to keep it running when the internet goes down.

Yes, Reolink doesn't offer monitoring subscriptions. The only type of subscription it offers is cloud storage, and since the system has local storage, you don't need that either.

Reolink is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Home. These devices will alert you if your Reolink system's alarm goes off. Reolink cameras can only show the Live View feature on Alexa products.

How we reviewed the Reolink Wireless Security System

Image: Alina Bradford, SafeWise

For the Reolink Wireless Security System review, I tested the Home Hub system and several different Reolink cameras in my home. I have been a fan of Reolink's cameras for a long time, so I've probably tried half a dozen or so over the years. For trying out the Home Hub, I used the Argus 4 Pro and its solar panel. I installed the system myself and used it in my everyday life. I have also talked one-on-one with Reolink representatives.

I've tried out dozens of security systems and devices over the years, so I also compared how the Reolink security system matched up.

To learn more about how we review products, head on over to our SafeWise methodology page.

Final word

Overall, the Reolink Wireless Security System is ideal for anyone who wants to avoid monthly fees, keep their footage private, and be 100% in control of their security system. There's not a huge device selection, but that's okay if you want a security system based on cameras with built-in sensors and motion detection.
